FAQ about my Maternity Sessions

maternity photography dublin

I am recently receiving many emails to request information about my pregnancy sessions. As some questions are always the same I have decided to write a post to help you all with this enquiries. The most frequently asked questions are:

Should I bring my clothes or you provide them in your studio?

I have a selection of clothes and dresses that I use in my photoshoots. The selection includes: glamorous dresses, elegant blouses, skirts and bodysuits. Also, I have a beautiful fabrics that I use to create an amazing look.

Although I have all that I need for your photoshoot, I am a person who likes to prepare everything in advance. My key is if you work in what you really want to achieve and you prepare really good the session before the shoot then the result is completely different and stunning. That why I like to involve my clients in the preparation of the session. Also, I suggest to bring any clothes you would like to wear. Sometime people feel better with their clothes and they really like to be photographed with them.

Should I make my make-up at home before the session or do you provide this service in your studio?

A professional makeup artist works with me to make you look fabulous the day of your session. Long time ago I decided to incorporate this service because, as a professional, the make-up artist knows the different kind of skins tones and also how to enhance the facial features in the most beautiful way. All you need is to come with your face clean. That is all! We will make the rest at my studio.

How long takes the photoshoot?

Normally the photoshoot takes around 3 hours. I love to talk a bit with my clients when they arrive to the studio so we know each other, we break the ice and we see the clothes we are going to use. Then the make-up artist start with you make-up. This takes around 1 hour. When you are ready we start with your photoshoot and it takes around 2 hours.

I like to work without haste. First you will be more relaxed and secondly I like to pay attention to all the details so I can take the best of you. If you are planning to book a photoshoot with me think that you are going to spend all the morning in my studio. I suggest don’t make plans for these day! 😉

Would you like to do a maternity session but you have no idea what to wear? Don’t worry, I can help you to choose the best clothes for a maternity photo shoot!

What clothes are the best for a Maternity Session?

Preparing clothes for a maternity photo session could be a nightmare, but actually, it is easier than you can imagine.

Normally when clients contact me to book their session I send them instructions about what they could bring with some examples so they don’t forget anything. Also, I have a selection of fabrics and clothes in my studio that I always use.

In this post I explain 3 factors to consider when preparing clothes for a maternity photography session in the studio, since for an outdoor session I would recommend totally different things.

1. COLOURS:

Colours are probably the most important thing when it is about photography. How to combine these colours is going to have a special effect and impact in the photographs. So you must pay attention to it when you are searching for your clothes. I recommend you to pick a colour you feel good with. Then we will talk about how we can match it with other colours and backdrops.

2. BACKDROPS:

I normally use different backdrops in my sessions and to get a wonderful image the clothes must match with them.

A window generate a beautiful silhouette with all the light coming in from the back of the subject. In this case I recommend white clothes owing to fact that the result transmit peace, beauty and sweetie.

A white backdrop, could become white, grey or even black concerns about the position of the light and the distance from the subject to the background. I normally recommend white or black clothes for this images. But also, casual clothes like jeans go really well.

I like to use black backdrop to do silhouette and reflexion on the floor so I recommend no clothes or black clothes :).

With coloured backdrops I like clothes to be the same colour palette or complementary colours. We will prepare together before your session.

3. PROPS:

Typically, the main role of the props in photography is to add character, drama, interest to a photo, and highlight a context to the subject’s story. You could bring hats, all kind of jewellery, and everything you would like to incorporate in the shoot. I also have a selection of props in my studio that we will use in your session.

Pregnancy is a unique journey full of emotions. The wonder of creating a new life, see it grow right in front of your eyes and building a bond with the baby needs to be captured so it will never be forgotten!

When is the best time to do a maternity session?

The ideal time to do it is between 30 and 36 weeks, although it may depend on each case. Our advice is that you get in touch as soon as you are thinking to get it done so that we can advise you as soon as possible so that you do not miss the perfect moment. 🙂

Some of Lupe’s photos

Below you can see Lupe’s pregnant report when she was waiting for her little baba. She is a very sweet and beautiful girl. I think she can be reflected in her photos.

The tones and colours of her report are clear and soft. We chose dresses in white, beige and black to match with the environment. The chosen place was ” El Museo de Bellas Artes de Sevilla” which has different amazing courtyards that take us to a bygone era.

Another detail to consider is the ideal size of your belly. It’s so important that you have belly like it’s not too big.

Enjoy!
